Washington is in turmoil. Leaders play politics. The national debt looms larger. Our God Reigns. Companies downsizing rather than capsizing. Job loss. Culture wars. Our God Reigns. Rogue nations. Islamic terrorism. Would-be, two-bit dictators. Our God Reigns. The homosexual agenda. Abortion. Entertainment that should cause us to blush (but doesn’t). Our God Reigns.
Do we really think we have been blessed as a nation because our presidents have been such stellar performers? Do we really think we have been blessed because our elected officials are smarter than the rest of us? God has proven historically that He can use any kind of king, any kind of government, and any kind of leader to accomplish His purpose. I remind you that the gospel of Christ flourished first not under a democracy, but beneath the heavy hand of dictatorship. Our God Reigns.
The once narcissistic Nebuchadnezzar –ruler of the world’s only superpower– learned the hard way. “In order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes And sets over it the lowliest of men” (Daniel 4:17, NASB). He didn’t believe it. God proved it. Our God Reigns.
Memo to [members of the United States Congress]: Our God Reigns. Memo to the President of the United States: Our God Reigns. Memo to the Supreme Court: You aren’t. He is. Our God Reigns. Memo to Fox News, CNN, MSNBC: Our God Reigns. Memo to Christians everywhere: Our God Reigns. Let us be respectful. Let us be prayerful. But let us also be mindful of this: the God who created the world is still alive and active in the affairs of men. He can rule and overrule any time He wishes. Our God Reigns.
Pray “for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:2, NASB). Our God Reigns. Do you agree? More importantly, will you live today in that confidence?
